On Tuesday, December 20th, 2022, the Town of Smithtown will hold the Annual Menorah Lighting Ceremony from 5:30PM to 6:30PM at Town Hall. The Menorah Lighting Ceremony is a community based event, hosted by Supervisor Wehrheim and the Town Board, featuring Rabbi Mendel Teldon of Chabad Mid Suffolk, music, Latkes, Donuts and a special gelt drop, courtesy of the Smithtown Fire Department.
“This ceremony is always such a memorable one, thanks to Rabbi Mendel Teldon. He has a wonderful way of inspiring unity, hope and love for thy neighbor, using his natural gifts for wisdom and humor. Everyone who has attended the Menorah Lighting Ceremony each year always takes the time to share what a memorable experience it truly is. I’d highly recommend marking your calendars to experience this remarkable occasion.” - Supervisor Ed Wehrheim
Rabbi Mendel Teldon of Chabad Mid Suffolk will share the history of the Chanukah miracle, in addition to delivering a prayer before the community, prior to lighting the Menorah at Town Hall. In addition, the Town will be serving Latkes and Donuts, along with a gelt drop (Chocolate Golden Coins) courtesy of the Smithtown Fire Department. The town will have a collection box set up for a Toy Drive. Residents who drop off a toy for a child in need will receive a raffle ticket to win tickets to the Winter Lantern Festival at the Smithtown Historical Society. The drawing will take place prior to the Menorah Lighting.
