The demolition of the road bed from 5th Street to 2nd Street is underway this week along Lake Avenue. Paving is slated for Sunday morning, weather permitting. Patrons should use alternate routes and observe the construction speed limit: 20mph. Use Washington Avenue to frequent shops on the West side, and 1st Avenue for all shops on the East Side of Lake Avenue.
West Side of Lake Ave: Forming is underway from 3rd St to Railroad Ave. Concrete pouring is scheduled for this week. East Side: Sidewalk forming and reconstruction is slated to continue between 3rd & 2nd Streets this week.
The rebuilding of the road bed, asphalt, and sidewalk reconstruction from Woodlawn to 5th Street has been completed with the exception of some drainage work at intersections on 7th, 6th, and 5th Streets.
Final milling and asphalt pouring is slated for early Spring 2021. The asphalt and traffic lines north of the railroad are temporary. In early Spring, Highway teams will mill (smooths and levels) and add a final layer of asphalt along Lake Avenue from Patricks Way to Moriches Road. Adequate time for the material under the road to settle is required to protect the new sewer and water main.
Final phase: Streetscape - Ornamental street signage, decorative crosswalks, ornate street lighting and utility pole replacement. No road closures are expected for this portion of the project.
Please refer to the road detour image for special parking and entry information for shops.
