On Friday June 26th, at 5:30PM, the Town of Smithtown premiered a surprise graduation message for the Class of 2020. Viewers can tune in to the Town of Smithtown Facebook page, Smithtown GTV on YouTube, or on Instagram IGTV to watch.
“Back in March, during a Facebook Live Press Conference with the Supervisor’s Association, we observed a number of parents asking if anyone was doing anything for the kids who missed out on so much. We immediately went to work and enlisted the help of various teachers, mentors, and school district alumni to put something together for the kids that they would have as a keepsake forever. I especially would like to thank Mike Catalanotto, Matt Gribbin, and Rob Cuni for their efforts in assisting us with putting this together.” - Supervisor Ed Wehrheim
The video premiere will feature noteworthy alumni or individuals who live within the community across the township. Graduation messages include a wide array of professions, from professional athletes, musicians and actors, to journalists and best-selling authors. Additionally, all four school districts and proud parents assisted the Town in assembling photos of the graduating classes throughout the years.
Special thanks to Brenda Lentsch of the Commack School District, Theresa Diaz from the Hauppauge School District, the Smithtown Youth Bureau, and the hundreds of proud parents who helped to make the video complete. The video was created, produced, and edited by Town Public Information Officer Nicole Garguilo.
