Smithtown Pet of the Week

Kobe

Kobe, the Natural Anti-Depressant

Meet the Smithtown Animal Shelter’s Pet of the Week, a loving happy guy named Kobe.

Kobe is a three year-old Male English Bulldog and Pit mix. Kobe is an adorable pup who has a face that makes you instantly fall in love with him. He’s a total goofball, and will perform to get your attention. Kobe has lots of energy inside him, and will let it all out with lots of playtime and love to anyone he meets. Kobe gets along great with children, but would prefer to be the only pet in the household.

Kobe unfortunately suffers from a chronic heart condition, so he requires an owner to go the extra mile. Kobe requires daily medication and a yearly checkup with a cardiologist. He also should not be permitted to go on long walks or be out in the hot weather. Despite his heart problems, and a tough start of his life, Kobe is sweet, affectionate and extremely outgoing. He has an amazing attitude through it all.

If you are interested in meeting Kobe, please call ahead to schedule an hour to properly interact with him in a domestic setting, which includes our Meet and Greet Room, the dog runs, and our Dog Walk trail. Family Pet Meet and Greets and at home interactions are also welcome and an integral part of the adoption process.

COVID-19: Foster Opportunity:

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, our Animal Shelter has had to restrict public access, including our loyal volunteers. If you have no other pets or young children at home, and are looking for a way to serve your community in this time of crisis, please consider signing up to be a foster. Foster parents provide temporary care for cats, kittens, and dogs in their own homes. Some animals need as little as two weeks of care, while others may need care for extended periods of time.

Spay/Neuter Clinic:

The Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation will hold a Low Cost Spay/Neuter Mobile Clinic at the Smithtown Animal Shelter on April 22nd, May 6th, and May 20th. To book appointments, please call (631)-566-8870.

Thinking About Adoption:

The Smithtown Animal Shelter’s primary concern is finding the perfect home for each animal that finds his/her way to us. The Animal Control Officers and Kennel Attendants at the Smithtown Animal Shelter will go out of their way to ensure both the rescued and rescuer are made for one another. Residents who have other pets can arrange to bring your four-legged family member to the shelter or set up an at home meet & greet to see how your prospective family member does with other family, pets and the household itself. Please allow yourself an hour minimum to meet with your potential new family member.

Hours at the Smithtown Animal Shelter are currently Monday - Saturday 10AM - 3PM. (Sundays and Wednesday evenings: by appointment only).

During the COVID-19 pandemic, public access is restricted to confirmed adoption appointments and wildlife/domestic animal rescue only.)

To inquire about the Pet of the Week or to meet your potential soulmate, please call the Smithtown Animal Shelter at 631-360-7575.
