The Town of Smithtown Horizons Counseling and Education Center, in partnership with the Town of Smithtown Youth Bureau, will host a poster design contest for Alcohol Awareness Month in April. Local youth are encouraged to design creative posters that spread the message about the dangers of alcohol abuse, or the laws about alcohol. In addition to the poster contest, Horizons will be posting daily facts about alcohol on social media throughout the month of April.
“Horizons Counseling and Education Center, along with the Smithtown Youth Bureau, feel it is important to engage kids during this time of isolation and remind them how important their voices are. Underage drinking continues to be a problem in our community and messaging about the issue needs to be consistent and often.” - Madi Makboulian, Drug and Alcohol Community Coordinator
All posters submitted should be 8 ½ x11, and incorporate the hashtag #AlcoholAwarenessMonth in some way. A poster release form should also be signed. Posters will be accepted through Friday, April 17th. Online voting will be open from Monday, April 20th to Wednesday, April 29th. The contest winner will be chosen on Friday, May 1st.
