Meet the Smithtown Animal Shelter’s Pets of the Week; two strays whose lives have since turned around, Nora and Peggy.
Nora is a pint-sized one year-old Female Lab and Terrier mix. This adorable pup was brought into the shelter as a stray after she was found wandering the LIE service road. She was initially very nervous, but her time in the shelter has helped her come out of her shell and turned her into the energetic girl she is now! If you come to visit Nora, she’ll run up to you and give you a big kiss. She can be the perfect snuggle buddy, or a great friend to play with. Nora would be a great fit for a home with children.
Peggy is a six month-old Female Domestic Shorthair kitty. She came to the shelter as part of the Trap-Neuter-Release program, and she instantly started looking for affection. Peggy is gentle and shy, but she loves to be loved by people! She’s great with children, and would do well in a home with other cats. Peggy unfortunately has a ruptured ear drum which causes her to have a chronic stuffy nose. Her perfect home would be a quiet place where she can cuddle and play all day.
Currently, there are a variety of male and female cats & kittens available to adopt or foster. If you are looking for a fun loving, yarn tossing ball of love, stop by the Kitten Nursery or the Cat Condos at the Smithtown Animal Shelter and find a PURR-fect soulmate or two!
All of the felines at the Shelter are current on vaccines and have received a full workup (blood work, Feline HIV & Leukemia tested, physical exam etc.) by a board certified Veterinarian.
If you are interested in meeting Nora or Peggy, please call ahead to schedule an hour to properly interact with them in a domestic setting, which includes our Meet and Greet Room, the dog runs, and our Dog Walk trail. Family Pet Meet and Greets and at home interactions are also welcome and an integral part of the adoption process.
Spay/Neuter Clinic:
The Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation will hold a Low Cost Spay/Neuter Mobile Clinic at the Smithtown Animal Shelter on March 25th as well as April 8th & 22nd. To book appointments, please call (631)-566-8870.
Thinking About Adoption:
The Smithtown Animal Shelter’s primary concern is finding the perfect home for each animal that finds his/her way to us. The Animal Control Officers and Kennel Attendants at the Smithtown Animal Shelter will go out of their way to ensure both the rescued and rescuer are made for one another.
Residents who have other pets can arrange to bring your four-legged family member to the shelter or set up an at home meet & greet to see how your prospective family member does with other family, pets and the household itself. Please allow yourself an hour minimum to meet with your potential new family member.
Hours at Smithtown Animal Shelter are currently Monday - Friday 8AM - 4:30PM and Saturday 8AM - 3:30PM. (Sunday’s: by appointment only). To inquire about the Pet of the Week or to meet your potential soulmate, please call the Smithtown Animal Shelter at 631-360-7575.
