[ARCHIVED] Smithtown Pets of the Week

Betty and Momoa

Betty Boop and Momoa

Meet the Smithtown Animal Shelter’s Pets of the Week; sweet Betty Boop and the ham of a cat named Momoa.

Momoa is a two and a half year-old Male Domestic Shorthair. He originally came to the shelter as a stray in April of last year. He was quickly adopted due to his beautiful coat and sweet temperament. Unfortunately, he was brought back when he couldn’t get along with the owner’s dog. He would be best as the only pet in the household, since he loves all the attention! Momoa is a great fit for a family that has older children.

Betty Boop is a six to eight year-old Female Pit Bull Terrier Mix. Named after the iconic cartoon diva (who was originally designed as a dog), Miss Boop can’t get enough of people, and we can’t get enough of her! She was brought in by a Good Samaritan who found her crying at a nearby train station. We discovered quickly how attached she gets to everyone when she cried watching the Good Samaritan leave. She’s the perfect combination of calm, affectionate, and sweet all rolled into a 70 pound ball of love. Her eyes say it all, she oozes love and adoration for every new person she meets. While she’s great with children, she would prefer to be the only pet in her home.

Currently, there are a variety of male and female cats & kittens available to adopt or foster. If you are looking for a fun loving, yarn tossing ball of love, stop by the Kitten Nursery or the Cat Condos at the Smithtown Animal Shelter and find a PURR-fect soulmate or two!

All of the felines at the Shelter are current on vaccines and have received a full workup (blood work, Feline HIV & Leukemia tested, physical exam etc) by a board certified Veterinarian.

If you are interested in meeting Betty, please call ahead to schedule an hour to properly interact with her in a domestic setting, which includes our Meet and Greet Room, the dog runs, and our Dog Walk trail. Family Pet Meet and Greets and at home interactions are also welcome and an integral part of the adoption process.

Spay/Neuter Clinic:

The Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation will hold a Low Cost Spay/Neuter Mobile Clinic at the Smithtown Animal Shelter on January 29th, February 12th, and February 26th. To book appointments, please call (631)-566-8870.

Thinking About Adoption:

The Smithtown Animal Shelter’s primary concern is finding the perfect home for each animal that finds his/her way to us. The Animal Control Officers and Kennel Attendants at the Smithtown Animal Shelter will go out of their way to ensure both the rescued and rescuer are made for one another.

Residents who have other pets can arrange to bring your four-legged family member to the shelter or set up an at home meet & greet to see how your prospective family member does with other family, pets and the household itself. Please allow yourself an hour minimum to meet with your potential new family member.

Hours at Smithtown Animal Shelter are currently Monday - Friday 8AM - 4:30PM and Saturday 8AM - 3:30PM. (Sunday’s: by appointment only). To Inquire about the Pet of the Week or to meet your potential soulmate, please call the Smithtown Animal Shelter at 631-360-7575.
