TOWN OF SMITHTOWN 

PUBLIC NOTICE 

NOTICE OF PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD 

DATED: July 8, 2019

PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that the Town Board of the Town of Smithtown (the “Town Board”) will accept written comments until 4:00 p.m. on August 9, 2019, on the Town of Smithtown’s (the “Town”) draft local solid waste management plan, entitled the Town of Smithtown, New York, Local Solid Waste Management Plan (LSWMP) which includes the Town, the Villages of the Branch, Nissequogue and Head-of-the-Harbor. The Town prepared its LSWMP in accordance with the requirements of the New York State Environmental Conservation Law and its implementing regulations. The LSWMP addresses solid waste generated within the participating municipalities and proposes methods for waste reduction, reuse, recycling and composting. The LSWMP evaluates current and future solid waste management practices within the covered area, discusses alternatives that are available and sets forth steps to implement the LSWMP over a ten-year period. The LSWMP was prepared following New York State solid waste management policy. A copy of the draft LSWMP is available for public review at the Town of Smithtown Department of Environment and Waterways located at 124 West Main Street, Smithtown, N.Y. 11787 during the hours of 9:00 a.m. through 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. A copy of the draft LSWMP is also available for public view on the Town’s website: www.smithtownny.gov/LSWMP. All comments must be received by August 9, 2019 and addressed as follows:
