According to the National Weather Service, the winter snowstorm will bring some snow before 2pm, then a mix of rain and snow in the afternoon (2pm and 4pm) with the heavy snowfall accumulation after 4pm. Snow could be heavy at times and thunder is a possibility. High temperature is near 36, with wind chill values between 20 and 25. An east wind will make for breezy conditions, with gusts averaging between 13 - 22 mph but can go as high as 38 mph. Total daytime snow accumulation is expected to average between 3 - 5 inches.

Smithtown Supervisor, Ed Wehrheim cautions residents to take it slow commuting this afternoon.

“Right now it looks like the worst of this storm will fall to the west of us. But, if you can stay off the roads or can avoid traveling all together, please do so. However, if you are commuting home today, please take it slow and allow for extra travel time this afternoon as the storm escalates.”

- Supervisor Ed Wehrheim
