3/5/20- A presentation by Meryl Cassidy, Response CriDone Editingsis Center “Coping with Stress…Together as a Family”
The presentation focused on several different topics. They included: understanding the effects of stress; developing skills and strategies to cope with life’s challenges; and practice of how to use an interactive coping plan. The group also discussed Covid-19 and how people are beginning to get fearful.
6/29/20- A presentation by Karen Aldrich of the Smithtown Youth Bureau and Alexa Stern of Horizons Counseling and Education Center Town Hall Event on parenting.
The presentation focused on: Effective communication during these turbulent times; Communication Strategies; How to foster positive encouragement with your child(ren); Self-Care; How to talk to your children about alcohol
Effective Family Communication Workshop held on November 13, 2017- 51 families and student/adult volunteers came together for an interactive workshop geared towards families learning to talk to one another. Topic highlights include: active listening, I-Messages, and body language. Thank you to Kings Park in the know for hosting the event and Commack Coalition of Caring for their help and support.
Due to the success of the first workshop; a second Effective Family Communication Workshop was held on May 3, 2018 at Hauppauge High School. Thank you to Gail Feldman of the Suffolk County Department of Community Mental Hygiene and Hauppauge High School for making the evening a success!
