During the July 9th free household hazardous waste collection event, Smithtown residents who drop off recyclable batteries (those accepted under the Recycling Program), propane tanks (small 1 pound tanks and 20 pound BBQ size tanks) or mercury/mercury containing devices will receive a $5 Home Depot gift card courtesy of Covanta as a thank you for recycling and reducing potential safety and environmental impacts due to improper disposal of these items in the regular trash.  Limit one gift card per household regardless of number of items dropped off.  Gift cards will not be provided for alkaline batteries. While supplies last.


The calendar includes pickup days/dates for the Town of Smithtown as well as instructions for disposal of other household trash and furniture.

Regarding donating items:

Before calling to schedule a bulk item pick-up, consider donating furniture, appliances, other bulk items, functional computers, and electronics (in good condition) to a not- for-profit organization in need. Some of these organizations are listed in the following:

Prescription Drug Drop Off

The Town of Smithtown offers drop-off at the Department of Public Safety, 8am to 5pm Monday through Friday:

NOTE: Peanut and other cooking oils can be disposed of at the Town of Smithtown Municipal Services Facility, 85 Old Northport Road,Kings Park, NY.
