Medical Alert Program
If you are a Smithtown resident age 60 years or older, you are eligible for our Medical Alert Program.
Through our partnership with American Medical Alert Corporation (AMAC), a Connect America Company, we offer reasonably priced medical alert services to our senior citizen residents.
Clients have a choice of one of two systems. For those individuals who are primarily concerned with having protection while they are home, we offer a home-based telephone landline system. For individuals who want coverage all of the time, no matter where they are, we offer a GPS enabled system.
With both systems, clients simply wear an easy touch activator button that can be worn as a pendant or on the wrist (home-based system only). When activated, professionally trained emergency response operators are available 24/7 to help with any situation.
The home-based service is available for a monthly monitoring fee of $18. The GPS enabled system is available for a monthly monitoring fee of $30. Monthly monitoring fees are paid directly to Connect America. If requested, a lockbox can be provided at no cost. There are no installation fees, long-term contracts or cancellation penalties. All equipment must be returned to Connect America upon service termination.
Joining this program requires a brief in-home assessment. Following this assessment, a technician from Connect America will visit your home to deliver/install equipment and provide instruction on usage.
The Connect America medical alert system provides a life-saving link for independent living. "Our goal with this personal emergency response system is to ensure the well-being of our seniors and enable them to remain safely in their homes," according to Program Director Doreen Perrino.
