The Town of Smithtown Youth Bureau is a community resource dedicated to promoting the physical and emotional well-being of youth and families who reside in Smithtown Township.
Through collaborations with school districts and other community partners, the Youth Bureau provides a wide array of educational and support services in the areas of:
Health & Wellness - Youth development - Delinquency & Substance Abuse Prevention/Intervention
Programs & support for parents
Opportunities for healthy family engagement - Effective parenting skills
Building healthy family communication & interaction - Emotional health & management -Violence & substance abuse prevention
Programs and support for youth
Character & citizenship - Leadership skills - Community service - Personal resilience & social competencies Social/emotional learning - Study skills - Babysitting & basic child care –Employment readiness - Coping, stress & anger management - Social skills – Healthy Body Image - Living Skills
Recreation-based programs & special events
Family activities in the spirit of unity and community service including;
Global Youth Service Day, Family Pool Night and others.
Smithtown Youth Advisory Board
Appointed students & adults working with the Youth Bureau to plan & implement programs town-wide.
Youth & Community Alliance of Smithtown
(In collaboration with Horizons Counseling & Education Center) -Community leaders and caring student & adult residents dedicated to keeping our youth & families physically & emotionally healthy and free of substance abuse.
*Highly effective, evidence-based programs and presentations for school districts and community groups include: Second Step, Safe Dates, Children in Change, Why Try, Teen Intervene, Life Skills, Eight Dimensions of Wellness, Too Good for Drugs/Violence, Anger Management, Healthy Body Image, Positive Action, Project SUCCESS, Systematic Training for Effective Parenting, Guiding Good Choices and others.
*The Smithtown Youth Bureau is funded by Town of Smithtown, Suffolk County Youth Bureau, New York State Office of Children & Family Services and New York State Department of Transportation.
