Are you a Smithtown resident? Are you age 60 or older? Would you like the peace of mind knowing that if you ever need help you can get it? The Smithtown Senior Citizens Department can help you!

We offer low cost medical alert monitoring services to low and moderate income senior residents. VoiceCare clients simply wear an easy touch activator that can be worn as a pendant or on the wrist. When activated, professionally trained emergency response operators are available 24/7 to help with any situation.

The VoiceCare medical alert system, monitored by Tunstall, provides a life-saving link for independent living. "Our goal with this personal emergency response system, is to ensure the well being of our seniors and enable them to remain safely in their homes", according to Laura Greif, Program Director.

VoiceCare is an income eligible program that requires a brief in-home assessment. In order to be income eligible, annual income must not exceed $59,450 for a single person household or $67,950 for a two person household.

The service is available for a monthly monitoring fee of $18 which is paid directly to the monitoring company. There are no initiation fees, contracts or cancellation penalties. VoiceCare units are the property of the Town of Smithtown Senior Citizens Department and are on a loan basis for as long as necessary.

Funding for this program is proved by a federal grant from Housing and Urban Development (HUD) awarded to the Town of Smithtown Community Development Department.
